January 1st, 2020... What is up with R-22 Air Conditioners?

As many of you have been hearing for years now, there is a cut-off date for R-22 refrigerant. What does that mean??? What that means is that since the mid-1990's R-22 was put on a global ban list by the United Nations. Over the years, R-22 has been reduced and cut-off timelines were in place. January 1st, 2020 is the cut-off date for the R-22 refrigerant, so nobody is making it, or importing it any longer. The newer R-410A refrigerant is the replacement to R-22, as it is "safer" for our environment.

You don't have to replace your working system however, it is recommended to update older equipment, especially if it is using R-22. Any system older than an average 10-12 years, is typically outdated, inefficient, and potentially hazardous to operate. It is recommended to have your system checked at least once a year, and maintained to keep it lasting and operating at its peak performance. If you have any questions regarding the R-22 phase out, don't hesitate to call us to discuss it.
